This is the third issue of our effort to bring to you interesting happenings, events and occurences on and near the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We will usually seperate them into 12 sections to match up with the map sections on our web site http://www.BlueRidgeSkyline.com Starting with the Northern Section of the Skyline Drive including Winchester and Front Royal and working our way south to the Southern end near Cherokee NCWinchester, Front Royal and the Northern Section of the Skyline Drive.

National D-Day Memorial presents Ernie Pyle
Oct 10 - Oct 11 -7:00pm - Enjoy this monologue of the GI's journalist, Ernie Pyle. The presentation is a touching sometimes humorous look at the war through the eyes of Ernie Pyle as he and thousands of American boys lived it. In his dispatches Ernie Pyle gave his readers a first-hand view of what life was like on the front. Admission tickets are $10.00 per person in advance and $15.00 at the door. This event will take place at Liberty High School. The 13th Radford Highlanders Festival weekend is Friday, October 10, 2008, in downtown Radford and Saturday, October 11, on RU's Moffett Field. Radford University and The City of Radford are partnering to bring families another entertaining - and educational - weekend in the highlands. We are honored to have received such positive feedback on last year's events and are confident you'll enjoy what we have planned for this fall. There'll be some surprises in store and so much more! Mountain Color Celebration
The BW Country Store at Big Walker Lookout offers the art and craftsmanship of 25 artisans and crafters that demonstrate their talents each weekend all summer long. Chat with our mountaineer interpreter about life on the mountain, and watch such artisans as blacksmithing or jam making, or enjoy corn on the cob or a potato prepared in the coals of a fire. Our artisans will be available all afternoon for questions as they demonstrate their skills and craftsmanship. Come to the top of The Big Walker National Forest Scenic Byway between Bland and Wytheville, Virginia for an afternoon you will not soon forget!

It's the 61st season of the bi-annual Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands, October 16-19, 2008. The Craft Fair is an event where connoisseurs and novices alike come to craft a collection, connect with tradition, and invest in regional culture. The Craft Fair takes place in beautiful downtown Asheville at the Civic Center, 10am-6pm Thursday through Saturday, and 10am -5pm Sunday. Over two hundred craftspeople fill two floors with fine handcrafted items, while local musicians play live on the arena stage, and craft educators share their knowledge with children in hands-on projects.
