Formerly the caretaker’s cabin for the Shenandoah River Mountain Lodge, built in the 1930s, the original cabin still serves as a bedroom, with shower bath, to which has been added a kitchen and a 20 x 24 foot cathedral ceiling living room with dining area and beautiful stone fireplace. Exit the living room and you are on a large deck directly on the Shenandoah River. Your view is across the river to pasture land with the mountains in the background. You hear the sounds of the rapids upstream and are in about as peaceful a setting as there is anywhere. Another staircase descends the riverbank to a lower deck, secured to trees, which overhangs the river. A large swimming pool is a short walk from the cabin. The bedroom has a double bed. There are two single beds/couches in the living room. The kitchen is fully equipped, including microwave. In such a setting, there is not much motivation to cook, but the facilities are there if you wish. Bountiful prepared food is easily available in town (the town of Luray is four miles from the cabin). The cabin has a VCR/DVD and stereo radio, with CD and cassette player. The cabin overall is rustically decorated and cozy. Situated on about a half acre, there is a flowering garden and open space. Neighbors are not too close, so there is adequate privacy. This cabin is perfect for those who love peace and quiet and just want to relax, read a good book and enjoy the wonderful views of all the nature surrounding them. It is not a partying site. It is a second home to the owners, so it is very personal and we are concerned that those who come to it will treat it with the care that we feel for it. There are many activities to enjoy in the area, such as hiking, canoeing, swimming (we have a fine community pool), exploring the caverns, antiquing, horseback riding, fishing, golf, tennis, just plain old rambling, etc. The nearby towns of Luray, Front Royal, New Market, Sperryville, Stanley, Edinburgh and Shenandoah are all fun to explore. There are many side roads and byways. The Skyline Drive and Civil War battlefields are only a short distance away.
LOCATION: Four miles outside of Luray, Virginia, directly on the Shenandoah River, inside a locked, gated community of sixteen cabins. (Specific driving directions will be sent to visitors.) AMENITIES: Fireplace. Stereo/CD/tape deck, VCR & DVD. Microwave. Telephone. Charcoal grill. Air Conditioners. Ceiling fans. Garden. Community Pool. Hammock on deck. Electric baseboard heat.
RESTRICTIONS: No more than four persons may occupy the cabin. No smoking inside the cabin. No pets. No children under 10 years of age (babies are OK, but after they are walking we are concerned about safety with regard to the deck and the river……..will consider/discuss exceptions.) Cabin must be left clean as found at arrival. Renters provide their own sheets and towels (blankets are available in the cabin). Sheets and towels can be provided by the owner for an additional fee. RATES: Minimum of four days required for rental, which is $500. Price is $795 per week. An additional 8.5% is required to cover state and county tax. Fifty percent deposit required upon reservation, with balance due on arrival date. We allow a $25.00 discount if you pay in full at time of reservation. Cancellation is required a minimum of fourteen days prior to arrival date for 80% return of deposit. All payments by cash, check or money order (sorry, no credit cards). CABIN is available April through early November. It is NOT available Memorial Day or on Labor Day weekend. By the week, rental is usually from Sunday-to-Sunday; however, modification of rental days can be considered. SUMMARY: Four (4)
